OUR STORY
ANRÁN is a country retreat situated in the South West of Devon. Set within rolling hills and stunning countryside, you will find majestic grade 2-listed buildings and an adjacent dairy farm known by the locals as Tidwell Farm. The buildings dating back to the 1700s lay derelict and unoccupied for several years. In April 2013, the farm was purchased from the church commission of England and a major renovation was undertaken to meticulously restore the property and convert it to a private residence. In making this both our home and a place from where we can work, we have aspired to create luxurious accommodation with a variety of venue rental options as well as a photography and design studio on the premises. Farming has restarted and we are proud to say that we have a variety of animals. We have also planted a whole host of fruits and vegetables which we get to enjoy fresh from the kitchen garden and love to share with our family, friends and guests.
ABOUT US
Mike and I have been together for over 36 years. Sixteen of these have been with our beloved Labrador, Kaya, who sadly passed away on the first day of summer 2014. Having traveled extensively for many years, we decided to put down our roots in beautiful Devon. Kaya was instrumental in us buying this property as we wanted him to have a beautiful environment to spend his silver years.
It took us almost three years to get over his passing and we were lucky to adopt Gibson, an almost carbon copy of Kaya, who is loving and intelligent but didn’t quite make the grade as a seeing eye dog. We recently took on board Bradley, a playful chocolate Labrador whom we’ve fondly nicknamed “the monster”. Both have their own characters and temperaments but we are sure you will love them to bits!
We chose the name "ANRÁN" for our home as it is derived from the Chinese characters “ān” and “rán”, which mean “a place of peace and tranquility”. Much of the interior design and furnishings reflect the many influences that the East has had on our lives and our travels. ANRÁN has now become not only our home but a place where we hope to share our experiences with others. We hope you enjoy your stay with us.
